A rocky river flowing through Bornean rainforest

About Us

From the Banks of the Sekonyer, for Borneo's Forests

Baliboo is a small team of local guides, captains and cooks who believe travel can be a force for protecting nature.

Our Story

It Started with a Chat on a Klotok Deck

Baliboo began with a simple conversation on a klotok deck. Local guides in Kumai saw more and more travellers arriving for the orangutans, yet very little of the benefit returned to the forest the orangutans call home.

So we built a different way to travel: private klotoks crewed by people from nearby villages, guides who understand forest ecology, and a commitment that all tour profits go to protecting Borneo's wildlife and forests.

Today every Baliboo guest plants at least one seedling. A small step that, added together, is slowly turning grassland back into forest.

Vision

To be the ecotourism operator that proves every journey can make Borneo's forests more resilient.

Mission

  1. 1Offer wildlife experiences that are ethical, safe and unforgettable.
  2. 2Empower local people as guides, crew and business partners.
  3. 3Channel all profits into forest restoration and wildlife protection.
  4. 4Educate travellers and communities about the value of tropical rainforests.

Our Values

The Principles We Bring to Every Trip

  • Respect Wildlife

Safe distances, no feeding, no disturbance. The animals always come first.

  • Transparency

Clear prices and a public report on how funds are allocated.

  • Locally Rooted

Our crew, food and partners come from communities around the national park.

  • Light Footprint

Refillable drinking water, no single-use plastic and all waste taken back to shore.

Affiliation

Affiliated with the FNPF Foundation

Friends of the National Parks Foundation (FNPF) is an Indonesian non-profit that has worked since 1997 to restore habitat and protect wildlife around Tanjung Puting National Park.

Its programmes in the area include replanting fire-damaged land at Pesalat and Beguruh, community agroforestry and forest fire prevention.

Through this affiliation, Baliboo's tour profits support that conservation work. Official information about the foundation's programmes and reports is available on the FNPF website.
