For explorers ready to sweat: peat-swamp and heath forest treks, night walks and long trails into primary forest.
Route: Tanjung Harapan - Camp Leakey - Sekonyer Kanan - Pesalat
Our most demanding trip. Besides the feeding stations, you spend three to six hours a day on foot with a senior guide, crossing giant roots, small streams and springy peat soil. The goal is simple: to see the Bornean forest as it really is. Your chances of meeting wild orangutans far from the feeding stations are higher, you will hear gibbons singing at dawn and you may find insects and pitcher plants most visitors never notice.
The plan may adapt to river conditions, weather and wildlife behaviour.
Airport pickup and board the klotok in Kumai. After the Tanjung Harapan feeding, take a two-hour afternoon trek followed by a night walk looking for tarsiers, tree frogs and glowing fungi.
A three to four hour trek through peat-swamp and heath forest while the klotok meets you at the next jetty. Watch the feeding and rest on deck.
The toughest day: up to six hours of trekking into the primary forest around Camp Leakey in search of wild orangutans, gibbons and hornbills. Back in time for the afternoon feeding.
Explore blackwater creeks by small canoe when water levels allow, go birdwatching in the morning and enjoy a final night walk at the forest edge.
Plant a seedling at the restoration site, then cruise back to Kumai for your transfer to Iskandar Airport.
