Four unhurried days, including a full day at Camp Leakey for a morning trek in search of wild orangutans, gibbons and hornbills.
Route: Tanjung Harapan - Pondok Tanggui - Camp Leakey - Pesalat
For travellers who want to go deeper. The extra night gives you time to walk the forest trails around Camp Leakey with your guide in the early morning, when wildlife is most active, before returning for the afternoon feeding. Nights are spent moored in quiet stretches of river. Proboscis monkeys gather in the riverside trees at dusk and fireflies light up the nipa palms after dark. Ideal for photographers and wildlife lovers who hate to rush.
The plan may adapt to river conditions, weather and wildlife behaviour.
Airport pickup, board the klotok at Kumai harbour and enjoy lunch on the river. Watch the orangutan feeding at Tanjung Harapan around 3 PM, then take an easy late-afternoon walk on the trails around the station.
Morning feeding at Pondok Tanggui, then a slow cruise upstream looking for hornbills, kingfishers and false gharials basking on the banks. Moor overnight near Camp Leakey to a chorus of forest insects.
A guided two to three hour morning trek in search of wild orangutans and gibbons. At midday learn about the history of orangutan research at the information centre, then watch the feeding around 2 PM. Dinner on deck under the stars.
Stop at the restoration site to plant a seedling and see the nursery, then return to Kumai and transfer to the airport.

You get an extra night and a full day at Camp Leakey, including a guided morning trek to look for wild orangutans and gibbons.
Orangutans are wild animals, so nothing is guaranteed. That said, the chances of seeing them at the feeding stations are very high, especially in the dry season.
Yes. For families with young children we recommend the Family Klotok Escape, which has a gentler pace.
